815. New Zealand Post Commemorates New Zealand Navy.


  New Zealand Post will issue a set of 6 stamps and 1 miniature sheet containing all 6 stamps on 5 October 2016 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the New Zealand Navy. The issue was designed by Helcia Knap and lithographed by Southern Colour Print and perforated. 14.5 x 14. Rating:- ****.







  The first issue of stamps by Australia Post with the inscription "Norfolk Island Australia" is made up of a pair of stamps illustrating the heads of local birds - the red-tailed tropicbird ($1) and the masked booby ($2) along with a miniature sheet containing the 2 stamps. An attractive issue due for release on 20 September 2016 - rating:- ****.



  Canada Post will release 2 issues in the next few days - the first will appear on 8 September 206 and will be the third in the "Haunted Canada" series. This issue will be made up of a booklet of 10 self-adhesive stamps (2 x 5 different designs) and a gummed miniature sheet containing the 5 different stamps. The issue was designed by Lionel Gadoury and Kammy Ahuja of Context Creative from illustrations by Sam Weber.  A great little set if rather featherweight in its significance. Rating:- ***.
  The second issue on the subject of the Canada Post Foundation Community fund will be released on 26 September 2016. The pair of self-adhesive stamps will be issued in booklets of 10 (5 se-tenant pairs) and will be printed in lithography. Rating:- ***.




Stamperija's latest modern classics with names of Commonwealth countries printed on them take the form of 10 "sheetlets" inscribed "Sierra Leone" each containing 4 different "stamps" with 10 accompanying "miniature sheets" all on the subject of artistic movements - Symbolism, Cubism, Surrealism, Baroque, Romanticism, Realism, the Dutch golden age, Renaissance, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. The stated date of issue was 30 June 2016. Rating:- 0.





















A double whammy this week also gives us 12 "sheetlets", each of 4 different "stamps", and 12 accompanying "miniature sheets" with the name of Solomon Islands inscribed on them. The hotchpotch of "collectables" commemorate the 55th anniversary of the first manned space flight, the 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Hindenburg, the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London, Ice hockey, "Football Russia 2018", 90th anniversary of the birth of Marilyn Monroe (US film actress), Diana Princess of Wales, Centenary of Einstein's "Theory of Relativity", 40th anniversary of the first commercial flight of Concorde, 80th death anniversary of Louis Bleriot (French aviator), 90th death anniversary of the death of Claude Monet and "American Impressionists". The stated "date of issue" was 1 August 2016. Rating:- 0

  1. One has to wonder if any of these issues ever make it to the Solomon Islands. Not a relevant issue in sight. Lovely stamps for Norfolk Island but such a shame that their indeoendent issues have ceased to exist. I understand this is political and administrative but it is sad to see the end of an era yet again.
