2164. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Royal Mail Reveals Its Stamps To Commemorate The Late Queen Elizabeth II.

New issues.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Royal Mail

10 November 2022

Commemoration of the late Queen Elizabeth II - 4  stamps. Designed by Kate Stephens and lithographed by Cartor. Perforated 14.5 x 14. Depicted photographs are by Dorthy Wilding (2nd Class) (1952), Sir Cecil Beaton (1st Class) (1968), Yousuf Karsh (£1.85) (1984) and Tim Graham (£2.55) (1996).

These are pleasing, dignified and respectful stamps celebrating the late Queen Elizabeth. The designs of 4 of the five stamps issued in 2002 to commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee have been reused with the addition of the years of the Queen’s birth and death and a black border. A fifth stamp in the 2002 set depicted a photographic portrait by the late Lord Snowden. Interestingly the stamps do not include a portrait/cameo or royal cipher of the new King Charles III.

Rating:- *****.

  1. Personally I'm underwhelmed by the Queen's commemoration issue. While the issue is dignified, I would've thought that Royal Mail would've had designs in reserve. They did the same with the stamps commemorating the Queen Mother. Potentially the Queen's image still indicates the stamps are British. I wonder if the UPU needs to be notified of any change to identification?

  2. Given the precarious financial state Royal Mail finds itself in, reusing old designs and photoshopping on a frame is probably all they could afford.

  3. Disgusted at Royal Mail........really thought that they would have done better than rehash previously issued stamps.........almost would have been better not to have bothered.

  4. I note these are very similar in concept to the memorial stamps for H M The Queen Mother and Diana - take a (relatively) recent issue, put a black border and dates on it ... and voila!

Although lovely and dignified, they do show a certain lack of imagination.
