1888. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Hong Kong Commemorates Animal Protection Society

๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Hong Kong Post will issue a charming set of 6 stamps, 1 miniature sheet and 1 ‘Collectors Card’ containing a set of 6 self-adhesive versions of the same stamps on 22 June 2021 to commemorate the Centenary of Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong). The issue was designed by Hikoko Ito and lithographed by Enschedรฉ and the stamps are perforated 13.5 x 14.5. Rating:- ****.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Singapore Post will issue a ‘Collectors sheet’ on 11 June 2021 which contains the 9 current ‘Goldfish’ definitives. The item was lithographed with additional printing with spot UV varnish, gold foil and embossing. Although this postal administration’s Collectors sheets are always sold at a premium they are often attractive and high quality items and make very nice additions to a Singapore collection. Rating:- ****.

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฟ In Blog 1886 I drew attention to the news reported on 26 May 2021 that the government of Mozambique had decided to abolish Correios de Moรงambique, the national postal service, because it was a severe strain on the country’s budget. The report did not state when the service would be abolished and subsequently, in a comment, Pedro, who had drawn my attention to this report, informed us that a Portuguese newspaper had stated that the postal service may be continued until the end of the year. Whatever the case it would appear that state postal services in Mozambique are either finished or have a very limited life expectancy.

Now on an internet auction site a large number of products have been put on sale relating to the COVID-19 pandemic all with the name of Mozambique printed on them and stated to have had a date of issue of 25 May 2021, one day before the Mozambique government announced the end of the state postal service. These are similar items to some produced recently for other postal services such as those of Mali and Central African Republic, all of them postal services which are known ‘clients’ of Stamperija (with the exception of South Sudan) but these items do not have the standard appearance of issues from that agency though they are expensive and are said to be part of a Joint issue with, one assumes, other Stamperija clients.

The products can be divided into several parts:-

1. Commemoration of the postponement of the “Summer Games” because of the pandemic - 2 stamps issued se-tenant in a sheetlet of 10 (5 pairs) and 1 miniature sheet containing a single stamp.

2. The Fight against COVID-19 and the campaign to achieve global vaccination against the virus - A sheetlet containing 2 se-tenant strips of 4 different stamps and 2 miniature sheets each containing a single stamp.

3. The Fight against COVID-19, Homage to health workers - 1 miniature sheet containing 4 different stamps and 1 miniature sheet containing a single stamp.

4. The Fight against COVID-19 - Homage to communications workers - 2 stamps issued in a miniature sheet containing 12 of the lower value and 1 of the higher.

Collectors will reach their own conclusions about these products I’m sure.
