2922. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ณ Update On Pitcairn.

New issues.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ธ Bounty Post (postal service of Pitcairn Islands) -

2023 - Friends of Pitcairn Islands - 2 stamps issued as a se-tenant pair. Lithographed. Rating:- *****.

2023 - commemoration of Dr William and Mrs Emily Ancrum (see Blog 2782) - 3 stamps in a se-tenant strip. Lithographed. Rating:- *****.  It was suggested that this issue had been released in 2025 but it appears that the year of issue by Tower Stamps was 2023.

2024 - The Pitcairn stamp designs of Jennifer Toombs (1940-2018) - 4 stamps issued as a se-tenant strip with a valueless label depicting the designer between the 2nd and 3rd stamps. Lithographed. Rating:-*****.
A very worthy subject.

All of the above items have been recently offered for sale on an internet auction site by Vmpetrol.

The American revolution.

In Blog 2920 I reported on the recent issues by the United States Post Office which commemorate the 250th anniversary of the rebellion of the Thirteen British colonies in North America and the declaration of Independence which established the United States of America. A further issue was released on 23 May 2026 which takes the form of a 2 pane ‘prestige booklet’ sold for US$28.95. The two panes are identical and each contain 10 different self-adhesive stamps which depict artefacts - ‘treasures’ - of the revolutionary period. These include a map of the Battle of Yorktown, the flag of the American Commander-in-chief, revolutionary currency, the badge of Mikitary Merit and a teapot with a revolutionary inscription. This is an interesting approach to commemorating the age of revolution and the issue was designed by Ethel Kessler.

1870. ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ญ Tristan Remembers Coinage Decimalisation.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ญ The postal service of Tristan Da Cunha will issue a set of 4 stamps on 26 May 2021 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the first introduction of decimal currency in Tristan when South African currency was first used there and then the 50th anniversary of the introduction of British decimal currency in 1971. This pleasing set was designed by Bee Design and lithographed by Cartor and the stamps are perforated 13.5. Rating:- ****. Thanks to Juliet Warner of Pobjoy Stamps for information about this issue.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช An Post, the postal service of the Republic of Ireland, has issued a pair of stamps titled ‘National Stamp (For People For Planet). The cartoon-style designs by Unthink are not so interesting as you might hope but as one would expect there is a lot of green used in the designs. The stamps are self-adhesive and were lithographed by Enschedรฉ. Rating:- **.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฌ The second stamp in this year’s Quartet from Guernsey Post which commemorates the Centenary of the Royal British Legion will be issued on 15 May 2021. Why a single set of 4 plus the inevitable accompanying miniature sheet cannot all be issued on a single day is a mystery to me. Rating:- ***.

Guernsey Post will also install a new Post and Go kiosk at the Market Street Post Office in St Peter Port and it will be operational from 10 May 2021 dispensing the Guernsey Flag stamp and the strip of 6 different ‘Bailiwick Flowers’ stamps with an additional inscription for that particular post office. The machine will be GG05.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ One issue from 2020 which completely escaped my attention was a miniature sheet of 4 stamps released on 9 October 2020 by the South African Post Office to commemorate SASSA, the South African Social Security Association. The attractive item was designed by Rachel-Mari Ackermann. Rating:- ***.

765. Uganda Issues Papal Visit And Martyrs Set; Malawi's New Birds Stamps; Currency Stamps From PNG.

In Blog 755 I mentioned some stamps from Posta Uganda which appeared to commemorate the visit of Pope Francis to Uganda in November 2015. At the time I was aware of 4 stamps but it appears that the set actually was made up of 14 stamps and 4 miniature sheets. The set was actually titled "Anniversaries and Events 2015" but centred on the papal visit and the 50th anniversary of the canonisation of the Uganda Martyrs and was issued on 27 November 2016. Rating:- *****.

Malawi Post will issue a sheetlet of 6 different stamps and 7 miniature sheets on 27 May 2016 on the subject of "Indigenous birds of Malawi". This issue is very similar to the "Endemic fish" issue which was released on 6 April 2016 (see Blog 749). K1 and K2 values were also produced but only seem to be available encased in a paper weight or pen holder. A rather excessive issue but I do like it and given Malawi Post's usual conservative stamp issuing policies I rate it *****.

Papua New Guinea Post issued a set of 4 stamps and 2 miniature sheets on 19 May 2016 on the subject of commemorative coins and bank notes of Papua New Guinea and also to commemorate the 40th anniversary of independence. The issue was designed by Yang Yansom and lithographed by Southern Colour Print. Rating:- *****.
