2916. 🇵🇬 Papua New Guinea New Issues Yet Again.

New issues -

I have reported previously in several Blogs on the confused picture of the new issues of Papua New Guinea in recent years. From about 2022 PNG Post released news of ambitious new issue programmes but more often than not the issues were delayed or did not appear at all. I have revisited the previously published 2023, 24 and 25programme lists  to see what PNG Post was hoping to release to try to make sense of it all. Recently some of the issues dating back to what was intended to be released in 2023 have appeared on the market and below I identify the issues I either now have in my collection or which have been offered for sale by respectable new issue dealers. There may be others which have also now been released but which I have not yet become aware of.

This product is offered for sale on the Stamperija internet site but anyone considering spending their money on it should bear in mind that this is an item produced privately by Stamperija on a sheetlet with Guyana personalisable stamps and is unlikely to be recognised by the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) as one of its official products as has happened previously with similar items emanating from Stamperija. Stamperija is not the official philatelic agent for GPOC.As always, with anything emerging from Stamperija, caveat emptor.

Habemus Papam! Prepare for issues portraying Pope Leo XIV.

Today, 8 May, after four votes by the Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church at the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City, white smoke poured out of the chimney especially erected there indicating that a new Head of the Church and Bishop of Rome had elected by those cardinals. The newly chosen Pope, Robert Prevost, the first American Pope, was announced as having taken the name Pope Leo XIV.

As a result we may now expect a whole range of post offices or philatelic agencies to be issuing stamps depicting Pope Leo XIV as well as his predecessor, Pope Francis. It’s hard to believe that Stamperija and New York-based IGPC are not already preparing designs with various country names printed on them in an attempt to cash in on this new papacy. MaltaPost was the first Commonwealth postal service to issue stamps to mourn Pope Francis, will it be the first to commemorate Pope Leo?
