๐ฌ๐ง Royal Mail -
17 May 2023 - 40th anniversary of Blackadder (popular BBC television programme) - 8 stamps, 1 miniature sheet containing 4 different stamps, 1 ‘Collectors sheet’ costing £15.40 and made up of 10 stamps with attached labels, and 1 limited edition (edition of 1000) miniature sheet ’plated in 24 carat gold’ costing £149.99p. Lithographed by Cartor. Perforated 14.5 x 14. Rating::- **.
In a single issue the actor Rowan Atkinson becomes featured on more British stamps than any other non-royal, non-fictional person that I can think of.
A great set of stamps for a great tv programme
ReplyDeleteThe miniature sheet, I like - insets of Baldrick on each, and that would have done at the entire issue, in my opinion. The actual 'loose' stamps haven't really got much merit, with the possible solitary exception of the quartet waiting to go 'Over The Top' in the stamp which heads the article.
ReplyDeleteMore of note, however, is the choice of values - not only two 2nd class stamps (and it's not Christmas!), but also two at the first-tier surface mail rate (£2.00), which cannot have happened for quite some time. (A novelty for those who collect postally-used stamps.)
I would’ve preferred a little caption on each stamp. Otherwise it will be hard for those unfamiliar with the show and characters to tell the stamps apart since some catalogues will only show a single stamp. I agree about the values. Perhaps the £2 is also going to see use on parcels too.

Thank you, an interesting count.
