Current events.
As Putin’s murderous and destructive assault on the people of Ukraine proceeds without conscience and apparently, given how well the Ukrainians have managed to slow down the Russian invasion, without any degree of competence, Royal Mail has introduced a postmark, which I have received on an item of mail, which promotes the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal (illustrated above and below). As can be seen the postmark has the message “UKRAINE/HUMANITARIAN/APPEAL” in a rectangle and underneath the message, “DONATE NOW AT/DEC.ORG.UK”. The postmark from Croydon Mail Centre is dated 14.03.2022. It is good to see Royal Mail supporting this appeal to help the brave people of Ukraine and this I think must be the first philatelic item from a Commonwealth Country to show support for Ukraine as it stands up to the monstrous Putin and his gang of kleptocrats.
