683. Pakistan Stamp Remembers Taliban Attack on School Children.

Pakistan Post issued a single stamp on 16 December 2015 which remembers the terrible attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar by the militant Taliban. This single awful deed resulted in the deaths of 141 people, including 132 school children between the ages of 8 and 18, and was carried out by 7 terrorists belonging to Tehrik-I-Taliban. A rescue was launched by the Pakistan Army's Special Services Group which led to the killing of all 7 terrorists and the rescue of 960 people. A further 4 militants involved in the massacre were subsequently executed by hanging.
The stamp was designed by Major Ubaid Nasir and printed in lithography by Pakistan Security Printing Corpoation, Karachi. This is an important and moving issue and highlights the continuing importance of stamps in commemorating people and events of national and international significance and why catchpenny issues put out by exploitative philatelic agencies trivialise such important issues as this latest Pakistan issue. Rating:- *****.
See Blog 601 ("The Age Of Terror").

The relentless outpouring of philatelic products with the name of Commonwealth countries printed on them continues from Stamperija despite the closeness of Christmas. This time Mozambique and Sierra  Leone are honoured to have yet more items produced in their names by Stamperija in limited editions of 1000 which of course makes the products even more desirable than they already were.
The name of Mozambique is printed on 15 "sheetlets", each of 4 different "stamps" along with 15 miniature sheets and the stated date of issue is 15 August 2015. The subjects featured on these products are :- Ludwig van Beethoven, Mushrooms, Mother Theresa, Space mission to Pluto, Motorcycles, Orchids, Pandas, Pope Francis, Shells, Rugby, Sledge dogs, Special vehicles, Tall ships, Marilyn Monroe and "Stamps on stamps". Rating:- 0.
Meanwhile the name of Sierra Leone has been inscribed on 10 "sheetlets", each containing 4 different "stamps" and 10 "miniature sheets" which have a stated date of issue of 23 October 2015. This is the second part of the "French art" series which I mentioned in Blog 678. The subjects in this release are Gustave Caillebotte, Berthe Morisot, Alfred Sisley, Thoeo van Rysselberghe, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Georges Seurat, Pierre Bonnard, Emile Bernard and Paul Sereusier. Rating:- 0.
I do not include any illustrations of the above items as there is nothing in the designs that we have not seen before and it is a complete waste of time reproducing them.
Let us hope that scientists soon come up with a vaccination for the philatelic world against further infection from more of these appalling products. I fear that the philatelic world will be carrying this particular virus around in its blood for some time yet to come.

As mentioned in Blog 675, the New York-based philatelic agents, IGPC, issued a sheetlet of 4 different stamps and 1 miniature sheet on behalf of the Tuvalu postal administration on the subject of (foreign) "Waterfalls". The "Official website of the Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau" now depicts and reveals that the date of issue was "8 September 2015" but then goes on to state that "Not available yet, delay in delivery. Pre-ordering is possible." Presumably then, the stated dated of issue was when the New York agents put the items on sale rather than when they would have been available for sale in Tuvalu since there had been "delay in delivery". What a nonsense it all is.
For anyone with AU$11.10 to spare who feel that they must buy these "stamps" this is what they will be getting for their money (the miniature sheet was illustrated in Blog 675):-

As mentioned in Blog 678, Guernsey Post's Post And Go kiosk situated in Envoy House in St. Peter Port has been dispensing "Guernsey Flag" Collectors' strips of 6 different values during the period 8 to 24 December 2015 with the added inscription "Envoy House Merry Christmas" as depicted below. 682. Jersey Begins 2016 With Monkey Issue.

Jersey Post will issue 1 stamp and 1 miniature sheet on 5 January 2016 to commemorate the lunar new year which will be the Year of The Monkey. There seems no reason at all for Jersey to release this issue but at least anyone who feels incapable of resisting the urge to buy these products will find that the pair of items is reasonably cheap at £1.47p. The items were designed by Wang Huming of Beijing. Rating:- 0.

Mauritius Post issued a single stamp on 7 December 2015 to commemorate the Bicentenary of the island's National Archives. Rating:-**.

The set of 4 stamps mentioned in Blog 662 which was released by the postal service of Nigeria on 23 October 2015 to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the University of Nigeria and its hosting of the West African University Games has been issued in 2 formats - with and without holograms (the hologram-less stamps are depicted below). There is also a miniature sheet, as described in Blog 662, which contains all 4 stamps without holograms in imperforate format.

Australia Post found it necessary to squeeze yet another issue into its enormous list of new issues of 2015 by releasing 4 stamps on the subject of Wild flowers on 14 December. Of course these stamps come in numerous formats - thus there are 4 gummed stamps (total face value $5), 3 self-adhesive values from coils (total $3) and 3 different self-adhesive stamps from 2 different booklets (10 x $1 and 20 x $1 - total cost of booklets being $30). The total cost of this issue therefore amounts to $48. Merry Christmas to Australia Post! At least the collapse in the value of the Australian dollar means that these items are less expensive for anyone living outside Australia.    Singapore Post issued a set of 4 stamps on 16 November to commemorate the Indian Heritage Centre managed by the Singapore National Heritage Board with the support of the local Indian community. Rating:- **.

India Post has released 2 new stamps in its 11th definitive series, "Makers of India". The designs feature Swami Vivekananda and Dr. Rajenda Prasad. The stamps were printed by the India Security Press, Nashik Road. I am not sure of the dates of issue at present. Rating:-*

In Blog 669 I included illustrations of the Royal Mail Post And Go label Collectors' strips with new inscriptions and logos which are now being dispensed from the kiosks situated at the Fleet Air Arm Museum and the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. Below here I also illustrate, for completeness, an example of one of the labels from each of the Collectors' strips dispensed at the Royal Marines Museum and the Royal Navy Museum. 681. Endurance Ice-bound, Santa in St. Helena And Monkeys In Botswana.

The first issue of special stamps of 2016 from Royal Mail will be an excellent set of 8 stamps which is on a subject very worthy of being featured philatelically - the Centenary of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition which was led by Ernest Shackleton whose ship, Endurance, was ice-bound from January 2016. Those on board were eventually forced to abandon ship and endure many hardships. Finally  Shackleton was able to rescue his men who were trapped on Elephant Island having set out himself with 5 other men in an open boat for South Georgia.
This important commemoration will be issued on 7 January 2016 and was designed by Robert Maude and Sarah Davies and lithographed by International Security Printers. Rating:- *****.

The St. Helena Post Office issued a set of 5 Christmas stamps on 25 November 2015 all of which depicted Father Christmas. Rating:-****.

St. Helena's "Main Street paintings" set (see Blog 665) was issued on either 15 or 21 May 2015 (2 dates are given on the St Helena Philatelic Bureau website) but "This issue ... due to printing problems and delays has only just become available to purchase". Presumably these are the same problems which also affected the Napoleon issue as mentioned In Blog 661 about which I have not seen any further news.

Botswana Post issued a very attractive set of 4 stamps and 1 miniature sheet on 20 November 2015 on the subject of Vervet monkeys. Rating:- *****.

The miniature sheet was also issued with an added inscription for the 31st International Asian Stamp Exhibition held in Hong Kong from 20 to 23 November 2015 - presumably the sheet was issued on 20 November 2015.

The latest philatelic delights from the Lithuania-based philatelic agency, Stamperija, have been produced in the names of 3 Commonwealth territories.

Firstly Maldives which has been blessed with having its name printed on 10 "sheetlets", each made up of 4 different "stamps" and each accompanied by a "miniature sheet". The "designs" generally feature birds and fish of Maldives/the Indian Ocean - Sharks, Wading birds, Fish (4 sub-sets), Birds of prey, Terns, Ducks and Seabirds. The stated date of issue is 9 December 2015. Rating:- 0.

Sierra Leone  is blessed with 10 "sheetlets", each of 5 different "stamps" and each with an accompanying "miniature sheet". The designs depict various types of birds - Waterbirds, Eagles, Parrots, Bee eaters, Owls, Hummingbirds, Seabirds,  Kingfishers, Birds of prey and the White- breasted guinea fowl. The stated date of issue is 23 October 2015. Rating:- 0.

Mozambique is even more fortunate in that its name is printed on a total of 15 "sheetlets", each containing 4 different "stamps" and with 15 accompanying "miniature" sheets. The stated date of issue is 15 August 2015 and a wide range of subjects is covered, many of which are irrelevant to Mozambique - the Achievement of Quuen Elizabeth II in becoming the longest reigning British monarch, Dogs, 70th anniversary of World War II, African fauna, African trains, Air ambulance services, Tigers, Trains, Cats, Expo Milano 2015, Fire engines, European Football Championships 2016, Mahatma Gandhi, Automobiles and Lighthouses. Rating:- 0.

The US-based philatelic agency, IGPC, has produced a new and very long list of philatelic products which it has produced in the name of its various client territories. Most of the items, as usual, have little or no relevance in subject matter to the territories whose names are printed on them.
