New issues.
๐ฎ๐ฒ Isle Of Man Post Office -
28 February 2024 - Commemoration of the late Maurice Gibb, Isle of Man-born popular musician with the Bee Gees group - 8 stamps. Lithographed. This issue coincides with the 75th birth anniversary of Gibb. Rating:- ***.
๐ฌ๐ฌ Guernsey Post - issue inscribed ‘Alderney’ -
14 February 2024 - Post boxes of Alderney - 6 stamps and 1 miniature sheet containing a single stamp. This issue features the seven post boxes on the island. These are naive designs with the boxes themselves poorly illustrated in only a tiny fraction of the design on most of the stamps. Designed from illustrations by local artist Nickie Shales. Lithographed by bpost. Rating:- **.
It was a good thing the Isle of Man didn't use the Bee Gees emission to celebrate this year's Europa CEPT theme: life underwater, as it did with David Bowie in 2022 celebrating stories and legends. Our beloved musicians would drown.
ReplyDeleteI can't see a lighthouse on the Alderney stamps, and they always (used to?) include that thematic to sell more - one on the MS perhaps?
ReplyDeleteI think that indeed IOMPO commemorates the 75th anniversary. Maurice was born in 1949.
ReplyDeleteThank you, you are correct - 22 December 1949 (I was thinking we were still in 2023!). I have corrected the comment and improved the rating.
DeleteWhy only Maurice Gibb?
DeleteHe and his brother (and fellow Bee Gee) Robin were twins, so why not both?
"Why only Maurice Gibb?"
DeleteAlmost certainly so that there can be a further issue later in the year devoted to Robin Gibb...
