Although I previously postulated that this issue might be linked to the Centenary of the BBC this appears not to be the case. How can it be that Royal Mail is ignoring a philatelic commemoration of such national significance, indeed of global significance, as the centenary of the BBC when it finds it perfectly acceptable to issue large numbers of stamps and philatelic items to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the first appearance on television of Transformers? And why is this inconsequential ‘Aardman’ issue being released effectively on the actual date of the Centenary of the BBC. One assumes that the two important British businesses could not agree on cooperation on such an issue presumably for financial reasons. Royal Mail’s philatelic new issue programmes are now utterly bizarre.

Meanwhile, of course, the BBC centenary was commemorated by the Isle Of Man Post Office issued on 19 May 2022 earlier this year by a set of 12 stamps.

  1. In complete agreement. Fully expected this issue to be BBC Centenary. Another easily forgotten subject and design much the same as other issues. Much more and will cease to collect GB. However, looking forward to King Charles lll definitives, but Royal Mail may decide to put a top-knot on to make more money!
