?25 July 2022 - 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mauritius and The Peoples Republic of China - 1 miniature sheet containing 6 different stamps. Thanks to super for drawing attention to this issue. The information accompanying the illustration was unfortunately all in Mandarin but I glean that this is another one of those issues which is a gift from the Chinese Peoples Republic to a partner country, in this case Mauritius.
It’s a very unusual item for Mauritius Post to put on sale and some of these items are easily accessible and others are excruciatingly difficult to track down. As I wrote in Blog 2078 a similar gift item from China to Vanuatu took several years to appear on the market and then only from a dealer in China and another one dating back to 13 September 2018 and shown on the Facebook page of Maldives Post at that time and commemorating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Maldives has never been offered by any dealer up to yet as far as I know. Any information about this issue would be welcomed.
The Maldives 3 sheetlets and 1 miniature sheet were publicised very shortly before the pro-China Maldivian president Abdulla Yameen lost power on 16 November 2018 to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih whose government was far less sympathetic to the Chinese Peoples’ Republic and this antipathy towards China may have affected the release of these items.

Odd, checking Mauritius Post website, I am finding nothing concerning this China souvenir sheet - and Mauritius Post is usually quite good in keeping its website updated.
ReplyDeleteYes you are of course right. However, the single stamp issue which looks like a typical Mauritius Post stamp has definitely been issued as I have one in my collection from a British new issue dealer. Perhaps that has originated from Harry Allen. As regards the extravagant 6 stamp miniature sheet I have suspicions that some of these items such as the Maldives sheets and perhaps this Mauritius one are given to diplomats and officials and favoured people and favoured dealers in China and go on the market later but on the other hand we may see them offered in Mauritius quite soon. Time will tell. Who knows what gifts China has in stall for any of us in future?
