Philatelic Collector Inc. has announced that it released an issue of 3 stamps and 1 miniature sheet on 4 July 2015 on behalf of one of its clients, the Tonga Philatelic Bureau, to commemorate the coronation of King Tupou VI who succeeded to the country's throne on 18 March 2012 on the death of his brother, King George Tupou V. His coronation took place on the stated date of issue of the stamps which not only depict the King but also Queen Nanasipa'au who was crowned with the King at the Centenary Church in Nuku'alofa by the Rev. D'Arcy Wood of the Uniting Church of Australia.
Royal Mail will issue another one of its overpriced "Commemorative sheets" on 20 August 2015. As usual, although the total face value of the stamps in the sheet amounts to just £6.30p, collectors who wish to buy this item will need to hand over £14.95p, a remarkable mark up of £7.35p on actual face value (how is this justified?) The subject of this item is the Bicentenary of the founding of the First Gurkha regiment in the British army and the 10 different labels in the sheetlet depict various aspects of the history of the Gurkhas involvement with British forces. They played notable rolls in India, the 2 World Wars, south-east Asia and conflicts such as the Falkland Islands, Kosovo, Bosnia, Sierra Leone, Iraq and Afganhistan campaigns.
Stamperija carries on with its seemingly unending release of philatelic products with an issue of 15 sheetlets, each containing 4 different "stamps", and 15 "miniature sheets" on the usual eclectic mix of subjects. The "date of issue" is stated to have been 15 April 2015 and the name of Mozambique is inscribed on the various items. The various subjects to be depicted on this occasion are:- Centenary of the First World War, Table tennis, Formula I motor racing champions, Japanese high speed trains, 95th anniversary of the late Pope John Paul II, 80th birthday of Luciano Pavarotti, 1200th birth anniversary of St. Methodius, 25th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's release from prison, 85th birth anniversary of astronaut Michael Collins, Birth centenary of Muddy Waters, Orchids, 125th birth anniversary of Russian writer Boris Pasternak, 80th birthday of Woody Allen, 125th anniversary of the death of Vincent Van Gogh and Taipei 2015 philatelic exhibition - the Taiwan blue magpie (previously mentioned in Blog 577).
Hong Kong Post will issue 6 stamps and 2 miniature sheets (1 gummed and 1 self-adhesive) on 17 July 2015 as children's stamps on the subject of Chinese and foreign folklore. The issue was designed by Michael Fung and printed in lithography by Cartor:-
