2837. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Royal Mail Issue To Feature Stranger Things.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Royal Mail -

13 January 2026 - Stranger Things - It appears that the first issue of 2026 (made up of a multitude of expensive products) will be on the subject of a Netflix television  programme titled Stranger Things with which I am wholly unfamiliar but which is described by Wikipedia as an “American series … the first season was released on Netflix on July 15 2016” and “the fifth and final season is being released in three parts in November and December 2025”. Wikipedia informs us that the programme combines “elements of horror, science fiction, mystery, fantasy and coming of age drama”. Presumably this is one of those cult productions which few know about but those who do are prepared to spend a lot of money on items related to it.

Rating:- 0.

  1. Which few know about? Probably 100s of millions worldwide!
    Also from wiki:
"Stranger Things is a flagship series for Netflix, drawing record viewership with each season's release."
But yes, Royal Mail issuing stamps on this is absolutely ridiculous!

  2. Again, it’s worth reminding readers that wanting the continuation of a postal service by releasing ‘traditional’ stamps is not a two way street.
Am I particularly thrilled about a Stranger Things release? No.
Will it encourage tens of thousands of people to purchase items from Royal Mail or at least hit the radar of younger/ non-traditional stamp buyers? Yes.
Institutions like Royal Mail need renewal and need to be fresh and on trend. There was similar discontent with the Peanuts release this year and products sold out almost on the day of release.

    1. Thank you. I disagree. I doubt that such products will encourage young people in particular to take up the collecting of postage stamps. Once it was an honour to be commemorated on a British stamp, now it is just a money making exercise by Royal Mail to cash in on the ephemerally popular.

    2. As regards the Peanuts products, scrutiny of the Royal Mail website suggests that all products are currently available except the postcards & therefore do not appear to have been sold out.

    3. I think I will have to disagree with you! I’m a very new stamp collector, I started when the Aardman stamps were released and I seriously started only a year ago. I’m very excited about the Stranger things stamps - I think they’re fun :) I love the series and they have quite a few British actors in the main cast! My friends also are considering collecting the stamps because they collect stranger things merchandise. However I’ve shown them my other collections, peanuts, DnD and star wars and they said they were cool and want to look into it more! :)

    1. I do not know what products will be part of this issue but it’s easy to believe that such an item would be included. Norvic would know I’m sure but of course he’s not allowed to say due to the news embargo.

  5. I suppose Royal Mail's thinking is that Netflix subscribers (the only ones to whom this issue will have any meaning) are already proving that they have more money than sense, so are easy pickings for what is indeed the strangest thing yet issued as notionally symbolic of British life and national pride.

  7. I shall be visiting a little post office for them. Not sure how many I will buy, but I will eventually use the stamps for postage. I am, after all, primarily a stamp user, and if I want to send mail through the post, might as well use "nice" stamps.
