Interestingly New Zealand Post seems to have taken it upon itself to rename the country as ‘Aotearoa New Zealand’.
I saw these Birds stamps from the Cook Islands - I didn't think they were new, but perhaps I was mistaken. It's interesting that the Rarotonga issue doesn't state 'Cook Islands' unlike the Aitutaki and Penrhyn issues. Surely of all the islands Rarotonga could be confused with another country.
ReplyDeleteFor some years many organisations have been including the Mฤori name before New Zealand when referring to the country.
ReplyDeleteMany places have been renamed with a more appropriate original Mฤori name through the Ngฤ Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa New Zealand Geographic Board. The country name has not yet been officially changed or dualled.
As they say: Whatungarongaro te tangata toitลซ te whenua / People come and go, but the land remains.
