🇮🇪 An Post, the postal service of Ireland has announced details of its new issue programme for 2019.
21 February 2019 - 'A stamp for Ireland' - 1 stamp. This rather nebulous stamp features expressions by the Irish such as "It's a grand soft day" which apparently is used to describe rainfall. The stamp is used to 'represent Irish identity to Irish people and visitors to our shores who are seeking a 'typical' impression of Ireland'. Oh dear. 🇮🇳 In Blog 1360 I mentioned new issues from India Post and now illustrate them below:-
30 December 2018 - 75th anniversary of the first raising of the flag of the Indian National Army at Port Blair in the Andaman Islands. 3 stamps and 1 miniature sheet.
30 December 2018 - Indian fashion through the ages, part 1. 4 stamps and 1 miniature sheet.
31 December 2018 - Handicrafts of India. 5 stamps and 1 miniature sheet.
🇸🇱 I mentioned the mixed territory miniature sheet which includes stamps inscribed with the names of 5 different countries including Sierra Leone printed on them and commemorating the Centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela in Blog 1358. The item is being offered for sale on an Internet auction site by a single dealer for just over £17. Before collectors rush to buy the item they may wish to remember that the sale price inscribed on it is Le42000 or £3.84p which is about one fifth of the price being asked for it by the internet dealer. A mark up of approximately 400% seems rather exploitative to me. As a multi-country item there is no way that Stanley Gibbons would catalogue this product.
