1297. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Canada Post To Commemorate Emergency Services.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Canada Post will issue 5 self-adhesive stamps in a booklet of 10 (2 x 5 stamps) and a gummed miniature sheet on 14 September 2018 to commemorate the country's Emergency Responders. One design has been revealed each day since 10 September in different parts of the country to publicise the stamps. So far we have seen Paramedics (10 September New Brunswick), the Armed Forces (11 September Quebec) and Search and Rescue (12 September Alberta). Today (13 September) a stamp depicting Firefighters will be unveiled in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the final stamp will be revealed on the day of issue in Ottawa and commemorate the Police. The set was designed by William Lam Design from illustrations by Shiro Nishigushi. The remaining designs will be depicted in the next Blog. Rating:- **.

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬ Ours is not to reason why. Why, for instance, would the small Caribbean territory of Antigua And Barbuda wish to issue 48 stamps depicting the former and present Presidents of The United States? No reason is apparent apart from the thought that its postal service's philatelic agency, the notorious IGPC (based of course in The United States) believes that there is a financial profit to be made from producing such items and then trying to sell the stuff. Several territories, mostly in contract with IGPC, have issued similar sets in the past. It's all very dull. Rating:- 0.
Having said that there's one little twist to the designs which might interest collectors who specialise in the theme of Flags. Each stamp depicts the version of the Stars and Stripes which was in use during the presidency of each featured individual and since there have been a large number of types of the USA national flag this set gives the Flags on Stamps collector a chance to obtain many of these versions for their collection.
I do not yet know the date of issue.

  1. Its interesting to note that the 1c and 2c coins of the East Caribbean Dollar were withdrawn in 2015, but remain legal tender until 2020. This doesn't invalidate the stamps, but if the stamps are sold at post offices the cost would have to be rounded to the nearest 10c.

    1. Thank you Chris. I suppose that this is further evidence that no thought is given that such products might actually be used on mail nor that these miniature sheets might be broken up into usable stamps. In short it supplies further evidence that the products marketed by this particular agency are quite simply a philatelic nonsense.
