I agree wholeheartedly with you on everything you've written. It can be a great pleasure to collect new issues and it's very sad that so many postal administrations, with the quite understandable aim of helping their financial income along, have resorted to excess issuing of irrelevant, facile and/or badly designed stamps or have put their philatelic fate in the hands of vaguely unscrupulous philatelic agencies. There are a few beacons of sanity such as Pobjoy Stamps and some individual territories. It will be interesting to see what lies in store for new issue collectors over the coming years.
Best wishes. I used to love the stamps of the Solomon Islands but these issues are just downright tasteless and superfluous to consumption. Such a shame. Stamp production and collecting have been hitting too many lows in recent years. I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments on Pobjoy. I wish countries like Montserrat and other Caribbean nations would employ them to produce their stamps instead IPGC and Stamperija. That's very helpful and disappointing - after the recent "Magna Carta" stamps I had hoped that the St. Vincent Post Office was issuing some stamps of taste and relevance for use in their post offices. Leopards, it seems, never change their spots. What Royal Mail is doing with those smiler sheets, is IGPC doing with their personalized stamps. Not only with stamps inscribed St Vincent, but also with Grenada, Dominica, etc.
There is a notorious seller in the Netherlands, Edel Collecties, who sells a lot of this junk. Deliberately not mentioning these are personalized stamps. Probably made and ordered by themselves from IGPC.
Stewie1980https://www.blogger.com/profile/17215449288925099410noreply@blogger.com
