Perhaps everything was looking rather tired by the last day. As regards saying everything looked like the 1950s - I meant to imply that stamp exhibitions really don't seemed to have changed since then and to capture the interest of the public and the young in particular and to encourage them to take up collecting, something more exciting, inventive and of the 2010s is needed. But maybe more modern approaches are just too expensive. I don't think that more general publicity would be do any harm either but I think anyone turning up who was not an established stamp collector would not have found anything at Stampex to set their interest alight. Best wishes.White Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17968199477827266643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2005756131065514338.post-31856634675279275442017-02-22T13:10:15.420+00:002017-02-22T13:10:15.420+00:00I have to say that I thought that this was a very ...I have to say that I thought that this was a very harsh review of Stampex. My impressions were very different. I went on the first day. There were plenty of people there and long queues on the Royal Mail stand. I certainly would NOT describe the stalls as ramshackle. A lot of work had clearly gone into setting them up and trying to make the look interesting. I would also not describe them as looking like something out of the 50s although I do not even understand what point you are trying to make there. I would however agree that the displays were packed too close together and also were rather poorly lit.

Part of my visit to Stampex is social and I was able to meet a number of other regular visitors. There were plenty of us there on the first day.

I suspect that most collectors will only find a limited number of stalls to have anything of interest simply because the range of stamps is so wide and most collectors of necessity specialise. I am perhaps an extreme example of this as I mainly collect modern(ish)GB definitives. Although the range of sellers of such material has dwindled at Stampex in recent years, I still felt there was plenty to interest me. There was the outstanding display of pre-decimal machins in the court of honour (no less). This display was even spacious and well lit. Then there were the Machin trials on display, though I suspect these are less rare then the vendor would have liked. And then top marks to Royal Mail for bringing along plenty of recently printed definitives rather than the very old stock that would have been typical at Stampex a few years back. And praise for a number of other dealers for having fairly wide range of this type of material available, machinmaniachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04828718139014099738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2005756131065514338.post-14934753911183409912017-02-20T09:04:41.366+00:002017-02-20T09:04:41.366+00:00On each of my purchases from Peterstamps, I’ve had...On each of my purchases from Peterstamps, I’ve had ‘their’ stamps rather than either Finish (from their shop in Finland) or Russian stamps (from their shop in St Petersburg). On a side note they also act for many other Postal Administrations at stamp exhibitions around the world If you can’t find what you’re looking for an email to them usually gets a response in an hour or so, with the items listed on their shop. http://peterstamps.com/

From my experience they are not a bad company to buy from, despite a slight quirk in paying for your purchase, they beat some of our home grown seller for customer service.

It’s worth saying that they may not be the cheapest and you could probably find cheaper (the Ukrainian Leaf & Seed definitives are a case in point) on delcampe, but for those items you can’t readily find such as the Exhibition stamps from Estonia it’s worth giving them a look.
cityoflondonboyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02134752438729647570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2005756131065514338.post-44967187197884388592017-02-20T07:44:45.161+00:002017-02-20T07:44:45.161+00:00KEP and Peter Post are both private postal compani...KEP and Peter Post are both private postal companies like Universal Mail in the UK.
KEP is the only private postal company that is officially recognized by the UPU.
With KEP you can also send registered mail and parcels internationally. I am afraid that I have not really paid attention to the stamps emerging from Kyrgyzstan though I had been aware that WOPA handles 2 entities from that country - Kyrgyzstan Post (KP) and Kyrgyzstan Express Post (KEP). KEP seemed to be represented at Stampex on a store which also sold some Russian stamps and "Peter Post" which I think is a private postal service in St Petersburg though I have no idea about how genuine its status really is. Unfortunately because Kyrgyzstan is not a Commonwealth country I didn't really look in any detail at the stand so I can't be of much more help. If you visit the WOPA site both Kyrgyz postal services are represented with KEP issues listed for the last 3 years or so.White Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17968199477827266643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2005756131065514338.post-41035258684173866462017-02-19T22:25:05.242+00:002017-02-19T22:25:05.242+00:00Does KyrgyzstanEP issue their own stamps then? I only ask because I found their 2015 50th Anniv of the first space walk sheet being sold on the Stamperija website, so I figured it was one of those dreaded 'collectables'.
