Thank you for your comment and the int...Dear Ian,
Thank you for your comment and the interesting information about the availability of the naw £5 stamp. It seems that the fuss about whether or not it should be cdatalogued was a storm in a teacup. Until I read the Gibbons Magazine article it had not occurred to me that the stamp would not be catalogued though I remember the early report in your Blog which indicated that the stamp would not be sold at any Post Office in the West Midlands and at only one or two in the East Midlands.

As a grateful recipient of one of the covers you mention with the new £5 stamp cancelled on it (containing some excellent stamps I'd bought off you) I must agree that it seems completely unreasonable not to give the stamp full catalogue status.

Best wishes.White Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17968199477827266643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2005756131065514338.post-15499966843861475002017-05-19T09:40:47.274+00:002017-05-19T09:40:47.274+00:00Re the £5 stamp this has been available from a few...Re the £5 stamp this has been available from a few more offices than the original 27 (plus Goring which said they had them very early on). The Post Office (not RM) Press Office told me on 29 March:

"Dear Mr Billings

Thank you for your email re the Accession Anniversary Stamp.

As you mention in your article it was agreed with Royal Mail that the Accession Anniversary stamps would be sent to the 27 branches you listed.

I can see from the comments on your article that some customers wanted to purchase the stamps from other, nearby, branches. I’d like to reassure you and your readers that the over 7500 branches which usually stock special stamps are able to order the Accession Anniversary Stamps to meet customer demand."

Para 1 contradicts Royal Mail's assertion that the decision was POLtd only - or at least the statement at Stampex that "it is up to PO where they sell the stamps".

Meanwhile I have used about 20 on Special Delivery and overseas tracked packets to customers, and pairs on some heavy non-stamp eBay sales to Europe. The customers, and maybe the eBay recipients will expect to see their VFU stamps in catalogues!Ian - Norvichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16436130277706268046noreply@blogger.com
